About Bentota
Bentota is one of Sri Lanka's premier beach destinations, located just 65 km south of Colombo along the sun-drenched southern coast. Its long golden beach stretches for several kilometres, flanked by swaying palms and calm turquoise waters — ideal for swimming, sunbathing and water sports.
The Bentota River lagoon creates a unique dual environment. River safaris by boat reveal mangrove forests, water monitor lizards, kingfishers and a rich variety of birdlife just minutes from the coast.
The town also serves as an excellent base for day trips to the historic Galle Fort, the sea turtle hatcheries at Kosgoda and the Brief Garden — a famous tropical garden created by landscape artist Bevis Bawa.
